Over the last few days, I have been thinking about the rather (for me)
amazing give-and-take exchanges that have been going on with our list. A
truly incredible (although VERY addictive) process.

For instance, take the discussion on moral depreciation. As I can
recall, it followed the following sequence:

1) value theory and the falling rate of profit;
2) Sraffa and the Neo-Ricardians
3) Neo-Ricardians vs. Post-Keynesians
4) Back to Sraffa
5) Moral depreciation and Neo-Ricardian theory
6) Moral depreciation in Marx
7) Moral depreciation effects on relative and absolute surplus value
8) Moral depreciation and uncertainty
9) Moral depreciation, fixed capital, technological change

All of the above was exchanged within a three day time period.

I believe that my last communication on moral depreciation was
QUALITATIVELY better than it would have been just a few days previously.

The key ingredients are, as Tim Wohlforth has suggested, tolerance and
criticism. I find the whole process very stimulating. As an academic, I
spend far too much time grading papers, writing exams, preparing
lectures, etc. I'd much rather be talking about the kinds of topics
that we frequently discuss. It reminds me of when I was in graduate school.
It's good to be intellectually stimulated, although, the ability to
respond instantly to communications does have some drawbacks.

So what went wrong for you Jerry?

Why is it not possible to discuss marxism on the marxism l'st
creatively, unless there is moderation/censorship?

Chris
