Subject: Jack Nicholson and The Shining

What was the date of "The Shining", with Jack Nicholson?

As I have a horror of violence, I do not watch violent films,
but I recollect numerous posters of a maniacal-looking Nicholson,
grinning through clenched teeth.

I ask as a spin-off from the Peru thread. It would seem we have
a powerful conjunction of Maoist idealism, the disinformation
offices of the Fujimori regime, and the capitalist media's
manipulation of popular fantasy, that hangs the word
"shining" round the neck of the PCP, like an albatross.

>From one point of view the PCP have only themselves to blame,
but from another, the manipulation of public
perceptions is one of the most powerful political weapons
in these post modern times, however simple the class
struggle might look in Peru to some people.

I would like to compare the dates of the career of
Jack Nicholson with that of Abimael Guzman.
I leave others to make flippant remarks about my
serious intent.

So you marxists who dabble with post-modernism, or simple
film-buffs, what was the date of "The Shining", and how
much did the theme catch on in popular culture?

Thanks

Chris
