If I had to pick one it would be The Hour of the Star, by Clarice Lispector. Macabea, the anti-heroine, is a hopelessly poor and barely literate working girl from rural Brazil, transplanted to Sao Paulo where she labors away. All of Lispector's work, which blends modernist and traditional elements of religion, reflection and anecdote, have now been translated into English.
