I would have to put "The Girl" or anything else by Meridel LeSueur at the
top of my list. Her short stories are really excellent too, however "Girl"
is her most widely available novel. Another I would recommend would be Agnes
Smedley, "Daughter of Earth". Of course, Gorky's "Mother" is always a
wonderful treatment, but I'm sure you are familiar with that. Mike Gold's
"Jews Without Money is also excellent. Charlotte
