I fully agree with Doug here. In fact, judging from the "harakiri" list of
"unsubs" emanating from those who thought they could get away by using
insults instead of arguments - and who are now precisely those playing
offended Magadalenes because they were bested at their own "flame war" game,
it seems that this is in fact what is already ocurring.

Far from me, new as I am to the list, to suggest that anyone should actually
leave it, nor that he or she should restrain themselves. But one thing is
cretain. If you publish something, it becomes the public domain, to be
applauded, criticised, lampooned, etc. It is up to you to be able to defend
what you actually said, and your weapons should be likewise your ideas and
your ability to put them across.

For myself, I will deal with everyone fairly. He who comes with a sword
will be met by a sword, or even two!. He who comes with an open hand, will
find an open hand. Tit for tat - that is the Marxist method.

There are many points in which I do not agree with many people's postings,
including some posted in the name of "Maoism" - for example. But I am all
for letting people debate their ideas in peace. Is there anyone who can
claim that we have come after him just for no reason? Anyone engaged in his
own thread - be on the theory of value, or in trade union and other
information, political debates about this or that left wing group or Party
who has not taken the stand of the class enemy in slandering the people's
revolution, can honestly say that we have disturbed him or her in their
endeavours?

The question of band width works both ways. I will also like to see
unanimous revolutionary Marxist postings, and hate to receive over a hundred
messages which I quickly scan and junk once I decide they do not interest
me. However, I do not complain about what others may consider to be worth
putting in a list dedicated to Marxism in 1996!

If we were all to stick to those principles, the peace of the list would be
secure.

Adolfo Olaechea
