Date: Mon, 4 Mar 1996 18:56:42 -0800 From: Ralph Dumain <rdumain-AT-igc.apc.org> Subject: R. DUMAIN'S FAREWELL TO MARXISM LIST FAREWELL ADDRESS, 4 MARCH 1996 The unhappy coincidence of the deterioration of this list and personal financial difficulties have accomplished what Louis Farrakhan and Chairman Gonzalo alone could not, that is, driving me off this list. The lion's share of my online time is occupied by my obsession with this list, and my bills have gotten so high that I cannot pay them, and hence I will have no access via my account for a few weeks. When I do get back online under my own name, I will drastically limit my subscriptions to mailing lists, and so I will not reconnect to this list. The noise to signal ratio is just too high here, and I cannot afford to waste any more money. I have made many good friends and acquaintances via this forum, and I hope to be able to keep up private correspondence. In addition, I hope that some of you, whom I will contact privately, who know my interests, will forward me copies of relevant posts that you send to the list. I will not receive any list responses to this communication, so I will miss out on the aftermath of my swan song. I don't have a complete list of people handy to thank or address right now, so I'll just proceed off the top of my head. Justin is already gone, so Lisa, Jukka, Hans, Bryan, Rakesh, Rahul, and others with whom I have running dialogues please keep in touch. Jerry (or is it Leo?), some day we will have to get back to the subject of (working class) subjectivity. I want to thank others who have provided me with good wishes, books, documents, favors, etc. -- Louis, Gary Maclennan, Robert Perrone, Luciano, Luther -- and do keep in touch also. Since I am working from memory right now, let me apologize in advance for anyone I have neglected. Please don't anyone send me any e-mail to my personal address just now. Those of you whom I have forgotten to mention now: I will get back to you as soon as I am reminded of your existence as I go through my disks. Despite the many frustrations and hostilities, the permanent friendships and associations alone I have gained from my participation here have made this on the whole a positive experience. --- from list marxism-AT-lists.village.virginia.edu --- ------------------
