We can end this exchange as far as I am concerned. I just have one final
thought to add on the militias and will feel like I reported on this topic
even though it came out posted in fragments.

People in the movement and some that follow it have noted the class-based
factors that contributed to the rise of the militia movement. The farm
depression in the midwest, "californication" of the Far West, the decline of
the labor movement along with restructuring of capital are a few.

Another class-based factor that became glaringly obviously is one between
those in the military and those who aren't. There is a very deep anger from
some military people toward those that think military service is beneath
them, or can (or could) afford the means to escape it. It is not necessarily
deserved, but much of this anger is directed at liberals or the left. This is
a schism that has increased, in my opinion, since the Vietnam War. Not that
all militia members have military backgrounds, but there is more than a
little overlap between these two groups. Many are Viet Nam or more recent war
veterans. It is my observation that if the left seriously wants to try and
reach these people, some attention to this area might be a good place to
start.

I'm looking forward to Bryan's report on fascism in Yugoslavia and
participating in this and other interesting threads. Now let's hear about
Auguste Cornu.
