During WW1, Martov came to visit Italy. He was greeted by crowds of Italian 
workers chanting "Lenin, Lenin". Not bad, considering that before the end
of 1917, hardly anyone outside Russia had even heard of Lenin.

As usual, I can't quote my sources, since I can't remember where or why
I read this.
