A letter from the Sagmalicar prison

Statement from the DHKC prisoners in the Sagmalcilar-prison.

July 9, 1996

TO THE OPPRESSED PEOPLE AND THE PROLETARIAT OF THE WORLD

Merhaba,

Today 161 revolutionary prisoners in the Turkish jails are on hungerstrike
till death. Today we count the 51st day of our resistance.

The cruel repression and exploitation against our peoples in Turkey and
Kurdistan is increasing on a large scale. In this manner the government
tries to force our people into submission. Our 70 year old mothers are
beaten with truncheons every day, they are arrested and subjected to
torture. Our young people, like the 17 year old Irfan Agdas who distributed
the Kurtulus-paper, are shot on the streets. 400 of our people "disappeared"
in custody. In Kurdistan, villages are depopulated, destroyed and burned. A
genocide is in effect against the Kurdish people. The smallest democratic
reactions of the workers are met with armoured cars. A fascist tyranny rules
the country and fascism is directed against everything human. Today Turkey
offers an image of massacres.

A part of these attacks by fascism against all sections of society is
directed against the revolutionary and political prisoners in jail. The
prisoners are forced into submission by trying to rob them of their
political identity and by trying to humiliate them. On May 20, 1996, 1.500
prisoners started a unlimited hungerstrike and on July 3, 1996, we continued
this strike as a hungerstrike till death


The new government wants to continue the repression. We will continue our
determined struggle against the fascist attacks, the repression and the
scenarios which are designed to mislead the peoples of the world. We will
continue until our justified demands are met


We are convinced of our victory


Until now you have strengthened our voice by yours, you protested in your
sensibility against the oppression and you have given us strength. Your
solidarity gives us strength and makes us happy. We know you will do even
more for our hungerstrike till death. Your struggle is our struggle.
