THEY DEFEND THEIR HONOUR WITH THEIR OWN LIVES ! Today, on the 45th. day of the hungerstrike the prisoners of the DHKP-C (30 persons), the TKP(ML) (10 persons), the TKP/ML (7 persons), the TKEP-Leninist (6 persons), the TDP (2 persons) and 1 prisoner of the Direnis Hareketi in the prisons of Bayrampasa, Umraniye en Sakarya declare that they will increase the hungerstrike: it will be changed into a hungerstrike till death. “We will not end the fasting till death before our demands are met!” * The isolation decree of May 6 must be withdrawn! * The extortion of confessions and the forced replacements of the prisoners must end! * We demand the immediate closure of the isolation prison of Eskisehir and the other isolation prisons! * The attacks against the relatives must end! * The hindrance of our rights to legal defence and medical treatment must stop! * We demand the immediate end to the policy of disappearances, the murders, massacres and torture. We demand the immediate ending of the state terror against the Kurdish people and the working people in the whole country! * The cruel oppression against the prisoners, especially in Erzurum and Diyarbakir, must be stopped! The attacks against the revolutionary prisoners, the massacres of the fascist state in the prisons are part of the war to bring the people on its knees. The primary target of the ANAYOL government was to break the will power of the revolutionary prisoners. For this reason they appointed police chief Mehmet Agar as minister of Justice. The new government coalition of the Refah Partisi and the DYP continues this policy and the promoted Mehmet Agar to minister of the Interior. Against this policy of annihilation, culminating in the massacres by the contra-guerrilla in the prisons of Buca and Umraniye, the revolutionary prisoners resisted, supported by a broad solidarity outside of the prisons. With this resistance they forced the fascist state to a temporary retreat. With the end of the old government and especially under the new government of the Refah Partisi and the DYP, the attacks increased. The isolation decree, the cancellation of the human rights for the political prisoners, the attacks against the relatives: they are a mirror image of the increased attacks against the people. With this terror the fascist system and the oligarchy try to get a grip on the steadily worsening crisis. Today, the revolutionary prisoners started a hungerstrike till death against this terror. They will rather die than deviate from their demands. The new government will not find a solution for the crisis, too. From this government the people can only expect more exploitation, even more bloodshed and even more tears! Twelve years after the hungerstrike of 1984 (*), the revolutionaries will defeat cruelty once more with their lives! The flag of Apo, Fatih, Hasan and Haydar will be carried on by the Free Prisoners (**)! DHKC Information Bureau Amsterdam (*) In 1984 three revolutionary prisoners from Devrimci Sol, Abdullah Meral, Haydar Basbay and Hasan Felci, and one prisoner from the TIKB, M. Fatih Oktulmus, died in a hungerstrike till death. The prisoners successfully resisted the destruction of their identity and degradation to objects without a free will of their own. The state wanted to enforce this by measures like uniformed clothing and submission to military rituals. (**) The revolutionary prisoners call themselves “Free Prisoners” because they successfully defended their identity in an continuing resistance as revolutionaries despite incarceration, torture and massacres. They will never surrender.
