Date: Thu, 29 Aug 1996 03:43:57 +0200 (MET DST) From: peace-AT-xs4all.nl (mira) Subject: repressif to PRD THE NEW ORDER REGIME CONTINUED REPRESSIVE TO THE PRD's ACTIVISTS IN HOUSE AND UNIVERSITY CAMPUS The New Order regime is engaged in continued attempts to deal a crushing blow at PRD members. The witch-hunt against them is being carried on by its repressive instruments, whose provocative acts are extremely frenzied indeed. First, on 30th July 1996, the office of the Central Java secretariat of PRD and SMID in Jl. Tegalsari III/129 was ransacked by the repressive apparatus. It failed to find any important PRD documents. .In fact, two nights earlier, the repressive apparatus employed its Irian Jaya thugs in an attempt to raid the office, but was aborted. Some comrades who were to stay the night there were still awake. Together with the local population they managed to drive them off from the office . It turned out that a van had been made ready to take them away. Second, on 2nd August 1996,during another raid, combined forces of the repressive apparatus failed to find any PRD document. The place had already been made empty. What they could do was destroying all clothes still left there, which should have been taken away to safety. In addition they also managed to rob our computer. The computer had been entrusted to local people, who had to hand it over to them after being intimidated and threatened with arrest. Afterwards the ransackers sealed the secretariat's office with something resembling a yellow strip, a hallmark of the police. Since then they have kept a close watch on the entrance/exit. Third, the repressive apparatus also made provocative acts against Wirayanti's (W) family. Organising thugs at the Terboyo bus terminal and members of the Pancasila youth in this act of terrorism, they made W's house the target of stone-throwing. Many glass objects and many roof tiles belonging to the house were destroyed. They also distributed and pasted leaflets on objects, on which they called on people in the neighbourhood to keep away from and keep a close watch on the house. They, however, did not confine themselves to these acts. They also carried W's parents to the police headquarters for questioning about W's activities. Fourth, an attempt was made to arrest Arie Trismana -- Coordinator of financial affairs at the central board of PRD. This was done by way of a raid on his uncle's house, which indeed was his hide-out at the time. Before they could find the house, the state instruments fetched Arie's mother away to the police station. The raid began as Arie was playing with his youngest cousin. At first he saw his mother coming to the house, but was followed by unknown persons. He immediately went to the bathing room where he hid himself behind the door. After he managed to slip off, he made a succesful escape by jumping over the hedge, at the back of the house and subsequently hid himself underneath his uncle's chicken coop. The hunting has also been carried out in university campuses, with those PRD members still having the status of students being the target. Secret agents were present around the Diponegoro University campus. A lot of students were picked to take part in the drive to capture PRD activists. For this purpose para-comando units of the Students' Regiment had been employed The impact of the drive was most tangible at the Faculty of Letters and the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, where there were many PRD members among the students. In another development, the head of the Dipayana University (UNDIP) drove the point home in a circular that if PRD should be declared to have problems (with the government), students with a PRD membership would be expelled dishonourably. Besides, he had called on PRD members among the students to come and surrender . However, the call has hitherto been ignored. Come what may, we shall continue to stand consistently in the front line of the struggle in defense of the people, no matter the risks. This is an acceptable logical consequence.
