Date: Sat, 30 Mar 1996 19:40:13 -0700 Subject: Draft info sheet for this list I've had some comments from Malgosia which I have incorporated into the draft, mainly that we need not spell out what reasonable behavior is because people already know how to carry on a discussion. I expect we don't need to spell out any legalistic rules, procedures and such either. Jerry, please post that segment from the au-top-sy info sheet that you showed me, I like it. I imagine that we need spend little time on the info sheet. I suggest that we keep the info itself to a minimal, brief statement, and get on with some discussion. What say you all? [No, nobody is _required_ to speak.] Lisa --------------------------------------------- This is the marxism2 and marxism2-digest list info sheet. 1 Policy and Purpose 2 Technical Info and Contact People 3 Archives, WWW page ---------------------------------------------- MARXISM2 is brought to you by the Spoon Collective, a group of Net citizens devoted to free and open discussion of philosophical issues on the Internet. Note: By subbing to this list, you will also receive ANNOUNCEMENTS deemed by Spoon to be of general interest to Spoon lists from time to time. Marxism2 is available in both digest and straight forms. For un/subbing purposes, Spoon's software treats them as two different lists. At the top of each digest (about 40K in length) there is a table of contents, with the subject line and author of each post. The frequency of digests depends upon the volume of the list, as soon as it fills up it is automatically sent out. -------------------------------------------- 1 Policy and Purpose PLEASE BE AWARE THAT POSTS CONTAINING LANGUAGE OR DEALING WITH SUBJECT MATTER THAT SOME MIGHT FIND OFFENSIVE MAY APPEAR ON THE LIST FROM TIME TO TIME, AND SUCH POSTS WILL NOT BE CENSORED. All posts are distributed to the list without the contents being reviewed or approved by anyone, i.e. there is no editor. We reserve the right to unsub and block out posts from any one we find to be preventing open discussion. The MARXISM list is a place to explore the field of textual and political production generated by the work of Karl Marx (and Friedrich Engels) and more generally, the tradition/s that work has inspired since. Clearly, this encompasses a diversity of differing traditions and figures, from Lenin and Luxemburg to Williams and West; the complete A to Z from Althusser to Zizek, one might say. The policy is that no particular tradition or 'orthodoxy' shall be established on this list, nor shall it be an arena for wars between orthodoxies. Rather, the list is a forum for open engagement and enquiry with all aspects of marxian-related thought. It is a forum for mental engagement, bringing together people of any field of study, occupation or activity that want to discuss some aspect of marxian thought and its relations to other topics. No academic or activist 'credentials' are required. BEING A 'MARXIST' IS NOT REQUIRED. Contributions are welcome concerning the relations between marxism and other liberatory thought, such as feminism, black studies, queer theory, postcolonialism, etc. Ordinary respect and courtesy towards other list members is expected, although the tone of discussion may grow heated. Please do not send many one-liners, lengthy cross-postings, and lengthy quotes left in replies. Longer essays and documents can be announced onlist and then posted to those who ask for request it, or may be made available via Spoon's electronic archives. ----------------------------------------------- 2 Technical Info and Contact People To post a message to the list, address it to marxism2-AT-lists.village.virginia.edu To sub, unsub or otherwise command Majordomo [the software] to do something for you, you must address your command to majordomo-AT-lists.village.virginia.edu The body of the message must contain only the command, the subject line is irrelevant.
