Perhaps, but _The New York Times_ also falls far short of its motto: "all 
the news that's fit to print." Indeed, I have seen the _Post_ cover some 
important issues that the _Times_ hasn't.

The _Post_, it seems, is read much more by working-class people than the 
_Times_ which is favored by "intellectuals." The _Post_ understands well 
that the key to sales for (especially male) workers lies in its extended 
sports coverage (sports -- another narcotic). Sensational stories 
involving sex, child homicide, etc. are all big ways to sell the 
tabliods.
