The point is that capitalism does not create patriarchy, and nor does
patriarchy create capitalism -- not only is it bad politics to claim
that women's oppression stems from capitalist exploitation, it's
also bad anthropology.

Like it or not, patriarchy has to be fought against by women for
women, with the aid of men -- but it can never depend on men and
male dominated organizations for a struggle against patriarchy!

Lisa: I tend to agree. Unfortunately, I can't honestly say that
male supremacists are just suffering from false consciousness or
wrong ideas. I think that there are some actual goodies that many
male supremacists receive for their domineering behavior. That's how
the traditional gender roles and expectations were drummed into us
>from birth, by rewards and punishments for "proper" attitudes and
behavior.

Same goes for capitalism and everything, and the process doesn't stop
with childhood. If early childhood is a training ground for boys to
be tough little competitors, that is only because caregivers
[rightly] believe that will make the kids more successful at being
men in a man's world, where manly domineering behavior will continue
to be 'rewarded' as an adult. Possibly even within some socialist
circles. [Of course, it's not so rewarding for the men who are no
good at it, or lose out in the struggle for supremacy over each
other, but it might be the only game in town.]
