Subject: Re: Biography of Lenin (Cliff)

I would exercise some caution in reading Cliff's biography of Lenin.
He kept putting off publishing it as he revised it to fit changes in
the SWP's line, which is always a danger sign in a "scholarly" work
of the left. In the same way, the second edition of his little book
on Lenin changes a few sentences to make some of the conclusions of
the first edition come out differently, rather than dealing with his
revised ideas (and anyone who doesn't revise his ideas from time to
time has a problem) in a preface or afterword.

The book is good, though, but take care to be aware that the argument
is highly tendentious and largely designed to justify Cliff's own
role in the Socialist Workers Party (UK).
