Santiago, thanks for re-estab- lishing your credibility. I had vowed to behave myself on marxism2, but this is one topic I take very personally. When I read those colums in the NY Times I wanted to puke. I know people who are mixed up in this business and I got swept up in it in a more intimate manner than I would like. But this business makes my flesh crawl, and the responses from the two Stinky Stanleys (FIsh & the other asshole) & Airheaded Andrew burned me up. These people sicken me on a deep level. The very suggestion that Sokal could be scapegoated was more than I could tolerate. This incident does prove that loylties are going to be tested one day whe the shit comes down. I'm not giong to tolerate these mediocrre literary shitheads, who can't compose one sentene of standard English, getting away with their crimes. I've hung with scietnists, as I've hung with artists, rerligious nuts, derelicts, counterculture types, and many other groups of people over he course of a lifetime. I have not found the academic literati to be superior in any way, not even in their own field. In fact, I have found people in the harrd sciences to be far more open, democratic, humansitic, and even artistic than all the English department dweebs I have known put together. I have real work to do, and I would rather not get involved in this little fight, but I'm not going to let it pass. --- from list marxism2-AT-lists.village.virginia.edu ---
