Subject: Re:  waiting for Godel


If you're talking about James Newman's boxed set, I've always
been suspicious, but  I never got around to pursuing it in  depth.
Didn;t some repsectable peple write a book on  Godel's proof -- a
short book called GOEDEL'S PROOF?  My memory is very hazy, and I
don;t  really understand Godel's proof at all, but I read hundreds
of pages of Hofstatder's crud and got nothing out of it.  I can;t
agree with you here, but I'm not going to waste another second of
my life pursuing this issue.  I do know some mathemticians,
incuding one of the pioneers of category theory, who was incensed
by Hofstatder's book, but then, he is a fanatic like me.  The
larger point is, that befre pomo got big in the USA, it  was the
counterculture and  Eastern mysticism.  I lived through this.  I
read all the shit.  The mystification of physics was the most
intolerable.  Somebody tried pulling that on the Blake list
recently and I eviscerated said misfit.  It was only a matter of
time before someone brought math into the picture.  My point is
hat scientifically trained people have  also been guilty, even
imporant scientists.  You should see the rubbish Eddington and
others wrote back in the 1920s, or the book that Pauli co-authroed
with Nazi Carrl Jung.  There's a long history to all this, which I
can;t tell for lack of time.
