Subject: Piece-meal and Proud

Say, Ralph, if you really want to take on "piece-meal" science, I'm
ready for the fray.

But could you start by defining what you mean by piece-meal and
giving an example to illustrate what's wrong with it?

Generalities about "parts" and "wholes" often seem like truisms to
me, that in principle are agreeable to everyone including scientists.
So, when disagreements occur, I suspect that it is because people are
holding often unspoken beliefs about the implications of "wholism",
and have perhaps some examples in mind.

I think that getting down to cases would help to clarify just exactly
what is the content and the point of such a critique of science.

Or am I not getting what you meant when you objected to "piecemeal
and proud"?

Lisa
