To Jerry,
     My counterfactual was Stalin not being in power
and the NEP being "intelligently" extended, if that 
was possible.  Obviously much would have depended on
who won the power struggle, and if it had been Trotsky,
as has been implied by various people, the NEP probably
would not have been extended, although perhaps the awful
outcomes I mentioned would have been avoided.  Who knows?
