Date: Wed, 7 Aug 1996 22:32:49 +0200 Subject: Re: Guy Debord Tom Condit wrote about "the long words and self-indulgent phraseology in the Situationist stuff", and then gave three explanations about this judgment. I have nothing to say about the second ("I was prejudiced by who their fans here were"), because I don't know the fans about who he's writing, I have an advice about the third but not enough documentation to motivate it. About the first, he may be right: perhaps the english translation of the books of Debord and Vaneigem is bad, but in french they are very well written, and it would be wrong to speak about them of "long words" and "self indulgent phraseology". ------------------------------------------------------------ Jean-Luc Gautero - Centre de Recherches d'Histoire des Idées Faculté des Lettres - Université de Nice-Sophia Antipolis 98 Boulevard Edouard Herriot - BP 209 - 06204 Nice Cedex 3 Email: jgautero-AT-hermes.unice.fr ------------------------------------------------------------ ++++ stop the execution of Mumia Abu-Jamal ++++ ++++ if you agree copy these 3 sentences in your own sig ++++ ++++ see: http://www.xs4all.nl/~tank/spg-l/sigaction.htm ++++ --- from list marxism2-AT-lists.village.virginia.edu ---
