Well, I said I would go when I got bored or when substantive discussion
evaporated, whichever came first. In fact, substantive discussion is
alive and well here (among some members) and I'm not bored. But I am
close to burn-out and I need to change my schedule from night-owl to
normal day person again, to get a normal amount of sleep, to try
(and try) to get regular exercise again, and to meet some fast
approaching daytime commitments this weekend and early next week.

I want to thank everyone who replied to me, including those individuals
to whom I did not get a chance to respond (your posts were read and
carefully considered, just as I promised). I feel I've learned
something about modern Marxists and the state of contemporary
Marxism. Nothing definitive, mind you, but more than I knew when
I got here.

Just a note to Greg Schofield: I'm perfectly aware of the CIA's
dastardly deeds, Mr. Schofield. Nor do I "have a problem with
the word communism." I simply asked a user what Marx meant by communism,
and if & how this was different from the Soviet Communism most people
associated the term with. I'm also well aware that communist parties
in different countries at different times can have vastly different
characters, particularly at the rank and file level.

What a curse these social distinctions are. They ought to be abolished.
I remember saying that to Karl Marx once, and he thought there might be
an idea for a book in it.
