If you had to join either on or the other, join the SP. The CPUSA is a
Stalinist outfit, undemocratic in its methods and goals. The similarity in
the platforms is merely superficial. I would suggest that you do some
reserach on the history of the world and US left before you commit to an
organization. Paul Buhle's Marxism in the USA will give you an
orientation. Unfortunately in the nature of the thing there is no neutral
perspective.

I myself belong to Solidarity, an independent socialist group based in
