Kenneth,

I don't pretend that people didn't *truly* die in the Gulf War, nor that
mathematical sentences are *true*.  Rather, I do claim that these things are
true because of the languages they are couched in.  I don't see any way 
that we might access an extra-linguistic "given"--however we describe the
"facts" they remain hardened bits of language.
