(once more) Yes, the Eternal Return can be understood as a symbol of faith in the gbasick value of life, but its much more. I measure the value of a book, a concept, a person, an idea, etc. by how much i am changed by it. After reading Thus Spake Zarathustra, who among u cisu is unchanged. Who among u has not gone thru a radical transformation of self/identity (if we may use such static terms) after several re-readings of the said book. Indeed , concepts like god, devil, good , evil and so on are anemic for they engender no change in me. I want my "today" to refute my "yesterday" and the aforementioned concepts do not even coax change let alone encourage the self hate that men of power need to somersault over and above their present selves into a "higher" self. Great Men and Women do provide examples. And that is their role, among other things, to inspire and promote envy; an envy that wants to challenge athe envied. It is thru the the procreative force of envy within the context of the agon that average and mediocre men and women become a nietzchean "child". In order for the average and so called "last men" to want to transform themselves into icons of art work they must first feel the bite of self-consciousness and self disgust. Yes, they must learn to want to selectively eliminate and destroy portions of them- selves in order that a more life-affirming self may emerge and return again and again. Self hate is the catalyst of the E.R. Ideas like E.R. are preggnant with passion for life bec. it involves not only self change but also the environment that the changed self interacts with is also changed and eventually made self conscious.
