"of the same." Aside from that question however, it doesn't strike me that "of the same." must necessarily be rejected in order to read it as the return of difference. You could read same as "samness as a phenomenon", or "that which is apprehended as the same". On this reading, one doesn't need to interpret it as refering to the "same identical thing." The apprehension of sameness would always turn out to be an error, but a necessary one. To stop at this apprehension, and conclude somehow that it literally means "identical", would be to engage in something along the lines of a "faith in grammar."
