Date: Thu, 2 Feb 1995 08:47:06 -0500 (EST) Subject: Nietzsche & Dostoevsky There is also Leo Shestov's (spelling varies depending on the translator) famous book, NIETZSCHE AND DOSTOEVSKY. He is one of Russia's foremost philosophers/literary critics, and, according to some accounts I have read, regarded as one of their greatest prose stylists. He was pre-communist (and, I believe, fled Russia after the revolution), so you don't have to worry about propagandizing. I have to admit I haven't been able to get my hands on a copy of this, but another essay of his that I read, "Dostoevsky and Kierkegaard," was excellent. ------------------
