BARKER" <sfbarker-AT-uci.edu> Subject: Re: Timetable of death of God Very interesting view of the VERY timely death of god presented by "Chris" (only a Derridean slip of a "t" away from the Crucified . . . and a Freudian slip of a "t" away from an illusion). One can clearly see how the twentieth century has indeed NOT been the century Nietzsche hoped and thought it would be. It has been the ultimate century of ressentiment, of the last men, of petty hatreds and fears elevated to global proportions. We continue to see it strengthening, not weakening, we elitists, we artists, from our little mountaintops. Lest we wax too hubristically fulsome about this insight, however, we must remember that this benighted and godless attitude on the part of believers is even more egregious in an age of nukes and AIDS than it was in the age of the Kaiser. A little activism, in our writing and teaching if nowhere else, must accompany Newt and his minions on their merry way.
