All of these well respected, no good academics argue that the eternal return is not actually a return of a particualr cycle containing the the exact same events but rather a return of chance that is nonetheless necessary. Nietzsche himself explicitly states that his understanding of the eternal return does not involve a final state, for such a final state would amount to reducing Becoming to Being.
