See "On Redemption" in _Zarathustra_ also re revenge against time, knowing, and so on. The initiate, for Nietzsche, does not have that sort of "knowledge", --but maybe it isn't worth belaboring. Question for this list in general: May we think Nietzsche's notion of music as standing in symbolic relation to primordial contradiction and pain and primordial unity (_The Birth of Tragedy_), the Dionysian which is always already in withdrawal, as a _meaning_ relation -- in terms of dissonance, harmony, and so on? I'd like to steer this question, if possible, towards the problem of lyric poetry, the rupture between poetry/music, which the pre-Socratic Greeks regarded as a unity: _mousike_ poetry/dance/music/education. . . Is this "symbolic relation" a _meaning_-fulness? - and a "meaning" NOT in terms of language? Ingrid --- from list nietzsche-AT-jefferson.village.virginia.edu --- ------------------
