In fact all apes like our selves are both carnivores and herbivores. Chimps actually hunt as a group, surrounding thier prey than mioving in as aunit for the kill. The prey is then shared throughout they entire group,including females and children, depending on their social status. On top of this chimpanzee males have a thirty perecent chance of being killed by other chimps in territory scuffles. Gorillas also have a social structure in which the young are taken care of by the group. I agree with you, You couldn't pride yourself on having the soul of a chimp.
