Subject: the meaning of meaning

I do not mean to insist, but replies to replies to replies that all lead
back to one individual (whose name does not begin with N) seem to have
overrun this here little something in the last two days. So once again.
Or tell me that this is just not relevant. Please?

It appears to me that giving definite meaning to a certain object derives
from a metaphysical inclination. By saying, "this means that" we not only
stigmatize the object, we also deprive it from its other possibilities. In
fact, by doing so, we kill it - just like a man only after his death finally
and eternally becomes himself, so to speak.
However, if we cannot attribute meaning to anything, then how do we ever get
to know the world around us? How do we determine what's what? Indeed, what
does meaning mean?

Thanks all,

RH Cornets de Groot.
