The principle of non-contradiction doesn't apply. Zarathustra is the precursor, the lightning, the bridge. He does not become the _Ubermensch_; the _Ubermensch_ is becoming. Zarathustra is not under obligation to go under; he _wills_ it (there is a difference). Inescapably there is antagonism in working on the ugly stone man (see _The Gay Science_).
