Subject: Vajrayana

What is vajrayana? It is usually called Tibetan Buddhism, although it is
practiced in North India, Mongolia, and even in Japan where it is known as
Shingon. It is also called Tantric Buddhism because the methods used were
derived from the Hindu Tantras before the 7th century. My Lama wanted it
called vajrayana because it is now really inplanted in the west, and should
not carry the burden of nationality. The practioners call it Vajrayana--the
diamond path or vehicle, the Tibetans do not call it Tibetan Buddhism of
course. This is the Sanscrit name. In Tibet it is called Dorje Thegpa with
the same meaning. I must go now I'll takel the relationship to Nietzsche in a
later post.
