I think that he was writing for the world, and some elements of his thinking were whole cultures such as Spengler and Toynbee used. In many way Nietzsche was psychologist--trying to understand the nature of the human mind. Slave morality, late man, and overman were elements of the evolvement of the human beings. In one regard we are in complete agreement--Nietzsche was an arrogant man. On the other hand humility is correctly assessing ones place in the universe so who is to say. You are right in saying the East and West are differently oriented. Whereas the West turned its attention outward, the East turned its attention inward. This distinction is beginning to breakdown as travel and communication begin to increase. As to Nietzsche's writing style. what can I say? Even in translation it is some of the most exciting stuff I have ever read. In German is has to be read syllable by syllable, so creative and versatile was this write. By the way I enjoyed your story of the snake venom tattoos. Chris. --- from list nietzsche-AT-lists.village.virginia.edu ---
