ah lamda.c-what a refreshing change from your more usual obnoxious self-since when was 'motherly' a swear word in its own right, by the way?- oops, could it be to do with when someone quite famous, someone who could not possibly merit sustained discussion on this list, reckoned that his most abysmal thought was the eternal return of his mother and sister? N's dithyramb, On the Poverty of the Richest Man, tells another story...
for the student that sent the initial enquiry- there are also texts investigating N's relation to buddhism (think its David Loys) and to jewish thought ( can't remember who offhand but try a library search under key terms?) Klossowski's Nietzsche and the Vicious Circle is worth reading in relation to nirvana principle.
Holingdale has written on N's alleged indebtedness to Luther ( my own view is N is lot more wittingly ironic about this than H thinks but, at least, this gives you the basic comparative points)
alternatively, its sometimes worth ignoring all the secondary lit altogether and, taking what you know about religion yourself into a reading of N. while it is a common view that Z has very little to do with Zoroasterism, the narrative 'structure' of Z plays around with most of the basic principles, the different kinds of fire most especially, and the notion of gift giving N uses makes little sense without his inversions of Zoroasterian gift giving
