Dear Brian,

If I recall correctly, this is not the first time you have patiently
explained something to me. Thank you.

A question, though. You claim that someone teaching the writing of
history cannot claim to be a historian. That person must align with a
new discipline which is separate from history called "writing history".

Does this mean that that person must also relinquish her claim to the
rhetoric discipline as well in favor of this new discipline?

Does a historian, who stops teaching history per say and instead teaches
the writing of history, cease to be a historian?

At face value, this seems to be just a matter of syntax and title. Is
there more at stake here that I am missing?

Okay, that's more than "a question", so I'll cease for now.

Best,
Paul Smith
