Date: Tue, 04 Nov 1997 10:38:00 -0500 From: Reg Lilly <rlilly-AT-scott.skidmore.edu> Subject: PLC: Thanks (and no thanks) Reading through the PLC mail this morning, I came upon GT's 'mail-stream,' and the several posts that came after. One was from a moderator of another list -- whose will remain anonymous to protect him from himself -- saying, in effect, 'I told you so! How much will you take before silencing him?' Needless to say, I replied, in more words, 'thanks, but no thanks for the suggestion.' I DO want to thank the members of this list for responding in a mature manner, of tending to the possibly wounded without villifying GT. Greg, Kevin and Paul especially, thanks for proving that I, or some Oz-ish similacrum of me with a finger on the 'unsub' button, needn't exist in order for a list to manage itself. I knew this was so, and it should be an object lesson for other lists. In my view, George is a valuable member of this list, and he's human like the rest of us -- we all have warts and worse, and it is, so to speak, 'a package deal.' I lack evidence to explain the unusually sharp line of George's posts; perhaps Greg is right. Whatever the case may be, we've all said things that might better no have been said, and most of us have gotten ourselves into conditions where we said a lot of things we might like to be able to retract. None of us would think it fair to make of such ill-occasioned words the crypt in which we were buried. So, 'dwell not upon the riverbed' -- onward!
