Dear George,

Thank you for your most appreciated response with thought and analysis.
I take it that you leave me free to vote with my feet or to stay and
fight, and that you do not think me wrong for not unsubbing PhilLit.

Two facts to share; one major and one minor.

MAJOR:

Call me an ingenue humanist if you will, but I'd rather stay subscribed
to Phil-Lit to pick-up chances such as the one below to help fellow
humans mend their ways:

Taking Laura's petition:
"Listmembers, would some of you be willing to post your favorite
definition(s) of "philosophy"? Humorous ones are welcome, but so are
 serious ones."

I SAY PHILOSOPHY IS INQUIRY.

I ALSO SAY THAT PHILOSOPHY CAN NOT BE MADE BUT BY FREE INQUIRERS
FREELY CHOOSING WHAT TO INQUIRE AND WHAT NOT,
WITH NO MODERATOR DECIDING WHO IS TO INQUIRE AND WHO NOT.

Sincerely,

Metin Aktay

END OF QUOTE

MINOR:

Yes, I am Turkish. There are many truths in the Seven Pillars re Turks
and many untruths, not that T.E. lied, he was sincere in his beliefs and
had good cause, as would anyone in war, especially when faced with
atrocities such as sodomy as T.E. was by an Ottoman officer. One would
not be able to kill for ones own cause if one really does not believe
that the enemy deserves to die.

And I would love anyone to bring Seven Pillars up not for the chance of
defending the honor of my ilk but for the chance of debating the
perspectives outlined above.

Sincerely,

Metin Aktay
