Or, as my father used to say (given that we were six kids born within seven
years, so dire measures were often called for), If you don't cut that out
I'm gonna knock your heads together. (He never did, but when he said that we
knew he was serious, and we had to make an effort to conceal our
ineliminable eristicism a bit better for a little while -- such as by
arguing in whispers or in another part of the house.)
