If I claim any academic stripes, they're marxian/lacanian, and yet I
like capitalism. I get most of my clothes for free, eat free samples at
the uppity-yuppy supermarket, park for free, download my software for
free, get my health care subsidized essentially by Capital (medicare), and
get nearly free haircuts at the local cosmetology school. There's not
simply one plan for enjoyment. For me its the pleasure of being part of
somebody's operating costs. Late Capital produces entirely too much
surplus value to keep things normalized. As Delleuze says somewhere, you
can choose your wave; while you've got to keep a close eye on what it's
doing, you'll still have a good measure of latitude to go your own way on
it.
