The (Barolong) writer Sol Plaatje (in his Engish novel Mhudi) uses sun-imagery in depicting the after-effects of a massacre of a Barolong village by Matebele forces. I'm paraphrasing from memory, but he associates the violence and devastation with the setting of the sun, never to rise again ...
