Our view of science and reason has been a religion in itself. We are so smug
about science these days. Doesn't anybody ever pay attention to the HISTORY
of science? We tend to view it as one glorious achievement built upon
another when in fact, it is a litany of proving ourselves continuously
WRONG. Everyday the 'latest' theory bites the dust to the 'new, new theory'
and we embrace the 'new, new theory' as gospel and at the same time scoff at
the theory we were once so sure of. We have done great things with science
but why should we at any time not assume that what we believe to be the
current 'scientific fact' is going to be what geo-centrism was to Gallileo?

And there is no better example of this than evolution theory. It is a
magnificent theory that we are so enamoured with that we forget it is a
theory and given it the stature of foregone conclusion like the acceleration
of gravity, the freezing point of water or speed of light. And now we
understand evolution soooo well that we can build theory on theory?) Well
folks, that aint science, its a narcissistic infatuation with our own
ingenuity. (And just don't even think for a second that I'm arguing for
creationism, I'm not. Period. And I hope no one will go there.)

Just something for you Pinkos and Capitalist Pigs to think about other than
which one of you is the oldest.

Finally, it seems to me that what has occurred on this list is that this
Pennefeather's Marxist SPAM( the list it is addressed to isn't even
Philitcrit) has rendered this list into his own soapbox! Just think if the
Republican party was spamming this list with its ideology. I bet the
responses would be less congenial than the diatribe of name calling that
this list has currently degenerated into. I'm new to the list and agree that
members should be removed only under extreme circumstances but this
Pennefeather crap is apparently batch posted to any list that might errupt
into discussion about his politics! I think, in truth, the discussion has
been interesting, and I've read it all so far, but it seems like it should
be discussed on the list it is addressed to, not because I want to change
what this list is currently discussing but to avoid giving Pennefeather the
satisfaction of having stirred the pot!
