   yes, it's interesting to see how much of this kropotkin really does draw 
on in his work on ethics.  it reminds me of a quote i once saw -- i believe it 
was from dorothy day -- to the effect that art is the "overflowing" of labor.  
part of me questions this formula, since it seems once again to relegate art 
to the category of luxury, but there is something about the idea of plenitude, 
excess, or overflowing which rings true.  it also seems consistent with the 
sort of gift theory developed by lewis hyde . . .
