A call to creative activists, tactical media makers, live artists, interventionist, situationists, guerrilla communicators, immediatists, pranksters, hacktivists and anyone working on the edge of art and activism. >From the 14- 17th of October the "Olympics" of the protests >movements will take place in London. The European Social Forum 2004 >(ESF), will bring tens of thousands to London to take part in a >plethora of workshops, gatherings and meetings (for more info see >- http://enrager.net/features/esf/) . "Culture" is high on the agenda in both the "old left" centralised /authoritarian political parties vision of the forum (http://www.fse-esf.org/en/culture.html) as well as the "horizontal's" - the decentralised/ autonomous groups. (http://www.europeancreativeforum.org/) However it seems most of the spaces that are being organised for "culture" fall within conventional exhibitions, film screenings, theatre, concerts format. There is a growing movement of those of us whose activities fall outside of these spaces, and whose work doesn't live in the box labelled "political Art" but tends to exist between resistance and creativity, direct action and representation. We make work/events/actions that take the form of radical political interventions into public spaces ( and non public- e.g corporate spaces) and take our politics as seriously as our aesthetics ! This is a call to those who are interested in setting up a gathering in London during the ESF which brings together UK and European groups and individuals who fall into this realm of practice. We don't imagine a conference style event with panels and papers, but more of a self organised laboratory for sharing tools, ideas, skills, tactics and more. We also want to make work and take actions during the ESF itself. One possible outcome of the laboratory would be the creation of a European network that would work together on creative interventions (including a tour of the UK) for the G8 economic summit that takes place in Scotland next year (June 8th -10th). We are sending this email out to see if there is sufficient interest in this seed of an idea. If there is, and people are prepared to make it happen, then we hope to organise a preliminary meeting on the evening of 6th of July in London (venue tbc) If you are not in London but interested in being part of this process, please email us so we get an idea of how many people want to get involved. Please forward to your networks etc. Yours in creative rebellion John Jordan (www.weareeverywhere.org) James Leadbetter(www.thevacuumcleaner.co.uk) -- ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ OUR BOOK IS OUT THERE! We Are Everywhere: The Irresistible Rise of Global Anti-Capitalism Edited by Notes From Nowhere Verso London/New York 2003 ISBN 1-85984-447-2 "We Are Everywhere is the the first book to truly capture and embody the exuberant creativity and radical intellect of the protest movements". -Naomi Klein "Lacking the po-face which could have made the collection a sanctimonious grind and celebrating not just the exploits of young white activists but people of all ages, from many different cultures throughout the world, this book is essential reading for anyone who cares about our future, and weighs enough to throw at anyone who doesn't." - Independent on Sunday.
