You may want to have a look at Paul Gilroy's work concerning the use of the
black body in the US and Europe, especially as it comes out in the adverti-
sing industry. He was here last week and gave a talk focused on the transla-
tion of the black body into a reified neutral conceptualization mainly for
voguish and commercial purposes. There is some of that in his book Small
Acts. But he is writing a book on the topic that should be coming out in
