There are several good histories of the decolonisation process, including the work of a number of British historians who, in the 1980s, were reassessing the way
Britain pulled out of the colonialism business.

I can recommend two good general histories of decolonisation:

	Rudolf von Albertini: Decolonization:  The Administration and Future of
	the Colonies, 1919-1963 (Doubleday, 1971)

	Henri Grimal:  Decolonization:  The British, French, Dutch and Belgian
	Empires, 1919-1963 (Westview, 1978)

	  
In addition, if you're interested in the British:

	R F Holland & G Rizvi:  Perspectives on Imperialism and Decolonization:
	Essays in Honour of A F Madden (Frank Cass, 1984).
