A response to Gareth, On a second reading of your email I have
thought through the notion of the enemy within which you talk about
and the enemy outside ... I don't know on that one to be honest, I
would have thought that yes we could talk about solidarity, but I
think solidarity can only ever be temporary and strategic ... I no
longer believe in a universal strategy or theory of fighting
oppression. In Australia, the ideologies of the two main political
parties are increasingly blurred .. and I do not think it is so easy
to differentiate between right wing labour and liberal policies. I
acknowledge that I wouldn't get a hearing in Right wing facist
discourses .. and if I use the film Romper Stomper as an example, I
am sure that I would be likely to face death at the hands of some fo
these people. So yes I agree there needs to be solidarity against
extremist Right Wing groups ... but I don't know really what you mean
when you suggest that I am lookign for the enemy within. Unless we
understand our own practices, and the strategies that we propose to
challenge injustice are we going to be effective in challenging the
opposition, whoever that may be??? Thanks for raising the
questions... as you can see I am still thinking through them. Parlo
