Dear Fran,

thanks for your posting.  No I didn't intend to imply that the internal
airing of differences or the issues of identity we have seen debated here
recently were not important.  I meant that the internal struggles over
those issues which clearly need to be aired and have been on this listing
to the benefit of all (certainly me) shouldn't make us forget that outside
our internal struggle there is a need to focus on the major move to the
right in cultural politics that would  dump all of our concerns and
differences in the name of an unregenerate, resurgent,  traditional
humanism.  I hope my position is clearer now.
