Subject: non-essential subject

radhika, satish, ...

the notion of a 'non-essential subject' and/or 'multiple positions' is an
interesting one and i am wondering if one could read it in the context of
style and performance
i'm thinking here of the remarkable transformation(s) of Michael Jackson
from a from "black" to "brown" to "white"
Jacko is not interested in the traditional 'passing for white' but in
an actual transracialization (maybe this is this is what he was thinking
about when he made the video "Earth")
is Jacko 'white' or 'black' or is this a case of "intentional
hybridity"? maybe Jacko is a prototype of the postnational, postethnic
future where people will be able to choose their race, nationality, and
ethnic group
