Dear Ladydonut

I saw Like Water some time back, and I was quite impressed by it..at first
I thought it based on one of Marquez's novels...the element of magic realism
is broadly similar to Ben Okri's brand of magic-realism fusion. I am no expert
in Latin American lit but I think that that element is interesting in that
it manages to concretize and link abstract ideas together. About the
women characters, they are in some ways powerful but are they not at the
same time victims of oppression as well? Anyone out there can shed light on
the Latin-American magic realism.
